Bodega Colomé: A Legacy of Excellence
Founded in 1831, Bodega Colomé is believed to have been established by Nicolás Severo de Isasmendi y Echalar, the Spanish Governor of Salta. In 1854, his daughter Ascensión and her husband, José Benjamín Dávalos, introduced the first pre-phylloxera Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines from France to Colomé. Remarkably, grapes from these original vineyards are still used in Colomé Reserva wines today.
For 170 years, the estate remained with the Isasmendi-Dávalos family until it was acquired by Donald and Ursula Hess in 2001. Their search for the perfect terroir led them to the Calchaquí Valleys, where they found not just exceptional winemaking conditions but also a second home. Since then, they have driven Colomé’s modern evolution, fostering both winemaking excellence and community development. Their contributions include a village community center, church, school improvements, and housing projects, making Colomé the primary source of employment for local residents.
Today, Colomé Winery is a leading Argentine producer of premium wines, crafting over 500,000 liters annually and exporting to 40+ countries worldwide.
Colomé Malbec
Alcohol: 14.5%
Tasting Notes:
This unoaked Malbec showcases a deep inky color with violet hues. Aromas of black fruit, cherries, mulberries, and figs intertwine with spicy notes and a hint of minerality. On the palate, it is robust and concentrated, with crisp acidity and ripe, finely grained tannins, delivering exceptional structure and balance.
