Their story begins\nin the town of Atotonilco in the Highlands of\nJalisco, home to some of the most appreciated\ntequilas, where their great grandfathers began\ncultivating agave 140 years ago. Descendants\nof Portuguese immigrants, the Fonseca’s came\nto the highlands where they became well known\nfarmers, owning the main bodega in the heart\nof town where they traded with the essentials;\nflour, coffee, grains, dairy products and meats\nof different sorts, most of which they farmed\nand produced in their ranches around town. In\nthe late 1800s, the Fonseca’s started planting\nagave to supply the first tequila distillers that\nestablished in the highlands; Tres Magueyes\nwhich later became Don Julio, El Centenario\nand La Vencedora, two distilleries that produce\nthe renowned Siete Leguas and El Viejito.
