DESCRIPTION
Wild and untamed, Double Dog is a seductively full-bodied brew with huge citrus hops balanced by robust caramel malt sweetness and subtle alcohol warmth.
Prepare yourselves for the greatest brewery story ever told…a tale shrouded in mystery… This story begins with our beloved founder, George Stranahan on the slopes of K2, the deadliest mountain in the world, as he leads a group of amateur climbers to the top. Completely untrained and unprepared, the intrepid adventurers make it to the summit, plant a flag or something, snap a few old-school selfies, and ultimately make the journey back down. Afterward, they find themselves in a mountain hotel, alive and warm and drinking beer…all while staring at a painting of an English bird dog hanging on the hotel wall. But there's something peculiar about this painting. While the artist set out to paint an English Bird Dog, he clearly had no idea what an English bird dog actually looked like. So instead he painted a regular ol’ dog and gave it wings, like a bird. A flying dog. The near-death experience— and post-climb beers—inspired George to found Flying Dog. In another fortuitous turn of events, George's neighbor back home in Colorado, world famous Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, became a fan of Flying Dog beer, and telegrammed his artist friend Ralph Steadman with a request. “Please Ralph. I beg of you. Do some art for my friend George’s beer.” Ralph set to work. And thus, the decades long relationship between Ralph and Flying Dog began. Since then, the brewery has put an original piece of Steadman art on every one of its major releases. In 2006, Flying Dog moved east and opened a production facility in Frederick, MD which would become our permanent home.
