DESCRIPTION

La Clandestine Absinthe is hand-crafted in Couvet, Switzerland, the birthplace of absinthe, to a moonshiner’s 1935 recipe. Every step of La Clandestine’s production is hand-crafted by Claude-Alain Bugnon, Europe’s most highly awarded absinthe distiller, on a scale very similar to late 18th century production and that used in the ban era; from harvesting and drying locally grown plants, selecting and measuring ingredients, through to bottling, labelling, corking and wrapping. Indeed consumers may not always see it, but we roll each bottle in tissue paper to provide extra protection in transit (hiding the bottle as our 20th century moonshiner creator might have done. Claude Alain's custom-designed distilling apparatus is located at his premises in Couvet, Switzerland. Claude-Alain is recognized as Europe’s leading absinthe distiller, with more awards than any other, and his absinthes are hand-sold to some of the top bars and retailers in 25 countries.

Tasting Notes

La Clandestine is a blanche or clear absinthe, like the very first absinthe produced in the 18th century. This all-natural spirit has a remarkably smooth, aromatic flavor profile; it is a true product of its “terroir.” Often described as being “as fresh as an alpine meadow,” its bouquet of flowers and herbs is delicate and masterfully balanced. La Clandestine’s elegant floral nature appeals both to those just starting the absinthe journey and to long-time absinthe connoisseurs.
