The 4.81 hectare plot of Grands Esprits has large, round, rocky, limestone rich soils planted between 1970 and 1980. It produces a straight Pinot Noir with firm tannins and potential for long aging. Occupying almost one quarter of our vineyards overall area, the 220 rows of Grands Esprits is the most calcareous area in the Clos Marey Monge. Hand harvested organic grapes, hand sorted on a vibrating table. 20 percent whole cluster. Placed into stainless steel fermentation vats by gravity flow. Weeks long maceration, minimal pumping over and punching down. Pressing in pneumatic press. Aged 18 months in 25 percent new French oak barrels on fine lees.
