Mathilde is a line of French fruit liqueurs from Maison Ferrand, the Cognac house behind Plantation Rum and Pierre Ferrand, run by Alexandre Gabriel with the same attention to sourcing that defines the rest of the Ferrand portfolio. The Creme de Cassis de la Saintonge draws on two prized blackcurrant varieties: Noir de Bourgogne from Burgundy, prized for aromatics, and Royal de Naples from the Loire Valley, known for a softer sweetness. Cassis has been called the elixir of life in France since the 18th century, and this bottle explains why.
The fruit is handpicked at peak ripeness and blended into a liqueur that leans plush and concentrated rather than thin or artificial. It is the classic base for a Kir or Kir Royale, but it also holds its own in fruit punches, drizzled over desserts, or stirred into sparkling wine for a quick upgrade to a normal glass of bubbles.
