Privatbrauerei Heinrich Reissdorf was founded by Herr Reissdorf & his wife Gertrude on October 4, 1894 in the historic “Severinsviertel” district of Cologne (Köln). Kölsch has been brewed in the town and outlying areas since the 13th century, and has its own brewers guild — established in 1396 — that mandates certain parameters for its brewing and protects the appellation worldwide. The style is protected by federal law (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée).
