DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
Tart, salty, and citrus forward. A German sour style rebuilt with blood orange. Full case of 24.
Sour, Salted, and Built for Heat
Gose is an old German wheat beer style from Goslar, brewed with salt and coriander and soured with lactobacillus. It nearly went extinct in the twentieth century and was revived by American brewers who recognized what a hot weather beer it was.
Anderson Valley helped lead that revival. Blood orange amplifies the citrus already present in the style, and the salt keeps it savory rather than sweet. The result is closer to a shandy or a margarita than to a conventional beer.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Fresh blood orange, light wheat, and a saline tang
- Palate: Crisp and tart with a soft wheat body, citrus up front, a clean salt note behind it
- Finish: Dry, quenching, and short, with the acidity fading fast
How to Enjoy
- Serve very cold at 38 to 45 degrees
- Pair with oysters, ceviche, fish tacos, goat cheese, or a salad
- Serve it in place of a cocktail on a hot afternoon, it does the same job at lower alcohol
- Gift it: the pick for someone who says they do not like beer but likes a margarita
The Story
Anderson Valley Brewing Company has brewed in Boonville, Mendocino County, California since 1987.
