In 1984, Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee created Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon as a tribute to Colonel Albert B. Blanton, the legendary president of Buffalo Trace Distillery who had a tradition of selecting exceptional individual barrels for special guests. That act of tribute launched an entire category of American whiskey and changed the industry forever. Blanton's Gold is the elevated expression of that original vision, bottled at a higher proof for greater intensity and complexity while maintaining the hand-labeled single barrel provenance that makes every bottle a unique piece of bourbon history.
Produced at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky and aged in Warehouse H, the metal-clad rickhouse known for its extreme temperature fluctuations, Blanton's Gold delivers a bourbon of extraordinary richness and depth. Tasting Notes
- Nose: Rich and complex, citrus, vanilla, and caramel with the distinctive floral note that defines Blanton's, more pronounced and intense at the higher proof
- Palate: Full-bodied and deeply satisfying, honey and vanilla lead into dried fruit, toasted oak, and a warming spice that builds with every sip
- Finish: Long, smooth, and deeply satisfying with lingering caramel, oak, and a gentle warming spice that fades slowly and rewards patience
How to Enjoy
- Neat: Pour 1.5 oz into a Glencairn glass and give it 4 minutes. The higher proof opens up the complexity beautifully and the floral and citrus notes reveal themselves in full.
- With a Few Drops of Water: 3 to 4 drops of still water softens the proof and brings the honey and dried fruit notes forward. A genuinely different and equally rewarding experience.
- Gold Old Fashioned: 2 oz Blanton's Gold, 1 sugar cube, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, orange peel, over a large ice cube. The higher proof holds up beautifully in the cocktail.
- Collect the Stoppers: Each of the eight horse and jockey stopper positions spells B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S. The Gold stoppers are distinct from the Original. Serious collectors pursue both sets.
