This is a single barrel expression chosen by our team, hand-selected from the warehouses of Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Every bottle in this release comes from one barrel, one mash bill, one moment in time. When the barrel is gone, it is gone. We are sourcing the next one now.
Buffalo Trace builds its bourbon on a low-rye mash bill that has been refined over more than two centuries of continuous distillation on the same grounds. At 90 proof and non-chill filtered, this single barrel expression runs deeper and more defined than the flagship release. The warehouse location, the season, the years of contact with American oak all come through in the glass in a way that blended batches simply cannot replicate.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Caramel, vanilla bean, toasted oak, dried dark fruit, and a trace of warm baking spice
- Palate: Rich toffee, dark chocolate, honeyed stone fruit, and orchard sweetness. Subtle pepper and mild wood tannin in the background
- Finish: Long and balanced. Warm baking spice fades into vanilla and oak. Smooth and clean with no heat bite
How to Enjoy
- Neat: Pour two fingers and let it breathe for a minute. This barrel was selected to drink well without dilution
- On the rocks: A single large cube brings out the stone fruit and softens the oak. Works especially well in the 1 Liter and 1.75 Liter formats for longer pours
- Classic Old Fashioned: The caramel and vanilla backbone hold up perfectly against a sugar cube and Angostura. Use this where other bourbons get lost

About Buffalo Trace Distillery
Buffalo Trace has been making bourbon on the same site in Frankfort, Kentucky since 1787. It is one of only four distilleries in the country that never stopped operating through Prohibition, and it is home to some of the most decorated and allocated releases in American whiskey, including the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection and Pappy Van Winkle. The standard Buffalo Trace release is one of the best value bourbons in the country. A single barrel expression built on the same mash bill is something else entirely.
