Château d'Esclans Rosé: Provence's Rich, Barrel Touched Estate Rosé
Château d'Esclans sits in the heart of Provence, northeast of St. Tropez, overlooking the Esclans Valley with the Mediterranean in the faint distance. When Sacha Lichine acquired the estate in 2006, his goal was to make the greatest rosés in the world, and he sparked the modern rosé renaissance with Whispering Angel, Rock Angel, Les Clans and Garrus.
This is the namesake estate wine, made only from grapes grown on Château d'Esclans' own vineyards. Grenache and Rolle (Vermentino) are sorted, gently pressed and vinified half in temperature controlled 600 liter oak demi muids and half in stainless steel, with twice weekly bâtonnage over eight months. The result is a fuller, creamier and more complex rosé than its famous little sibling, with real aging potential.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Red berries, pomegranate, white peach and spring blossoms with a hint of spice.
- Palate: Smooth and creamy with juicy red fruit, citrus and a fine mineral backbone.
- Finish: Long, rich and elegant with a gentle touch of oak.
How to Enjoy
- Serve chilled at 50 to 54°F in a white wine glass so the aromatics open up.
