DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The original Petale de Rose. Seven grapes, one iconic pale pink.
The Sumeire family acquired Chateau la Tour de l'Eveque in 1958, a former summer residence of the Archbishops of Toulon near Pierrefeu in the Cotes de Provence. It was here in 1985 that winemaker Regine Sumeire pioneered the ultra pale style of Provence rose that has since become the region's signature look, pressing the grapes gently enough to pull only the faintest color from the skins.
The current blend draws on as many as seven grape varieties, mostly Grenache and Cinsault with small amounts of Mourvedre, Syrah, Rolle, and Semillon rounding it out. The result is a wine that looks nearly clear in the glass but carries real depth and texture once it hits the palate, a combination that has kept it a benchmark Provence rose for decades.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Delicate strawberry and nectarine with jasmine, peony, and orange blossom.
- Palate: Dry and silky, with peach, strawberry, and a peppery, spicy lift.
- Finish: Long, with a touch of liquorice and pink pepper.
How to Enjoy
- Chilled as an aperitif on its own.
- Alongside grilled fish, shellfish, or a marinated tuna dish.
- With a mixed salad or soft cheese on a warm evening.
- As a gift for anyone who thinks they know Provence rose. This is the bottle that shaped the category.
