DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
Chinaco Reposado: Coastal Agave Rested in Old Scotch Barrels
Chinaco Reposado starts with 100% Blue Weber agave grown in Tamaulipas and rests for about 11 months in French and English white oak barrels that once held Scotch whisky. The seasoned casks add a soft wood frame without burying the bright agave.
Expect a light golden color, aromas of citrus zest, peach and apple, and a clean, fresh palate that closes fruity and spicy. It is refined enough to sip neat and lively enough to lift any reposado cocktail.
La Gonzalena, the family owned distillery behind Chinaco, was founded in 1972 and remains the only tequila producer in Tamaulipas. The brand helped introduce premium 100% agave tequila to American drinkers in the 1980s.
Its unusual use of long seasoned ex Scotch casks gives this reposado a character all its own, which is why agave collectors seek it out and why it makes a thoughtful gift for whisky and tequila fans alike.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Citrus zest, ripe peach, green apple, dill and quince
- Palate: Clean cooked agave, soft oak, stone fruit and gentle spice
- Finish: Medium long, fruity and spicy with a light woody touch
How to Enjoy
- Neat: Pour into a snifter and let it breathe a minute to bring out the peach and oak.
- On the rocks: A large cube rounds the spice and keeps the fruit front and center.
- Reposado Old Fashioned: Stir 2 oz Chinaco Reposado, 0.25 oz agave syrup and 2 dashes Angostura bitters with ice, strain over a large cube and garnish with an orange peel.
- Gift it: Perfect for the whisky lover curious about tequila, thanks to its ex Scotch cask aging.
