Patron Citronge is made at Hacienda Patron in Jalisco, the same distillery behind the brand's tequila range, using sweet oranges from Haiti and bittersweet oranges from Jamaica macerated in neutral spirit. It was built specifically to replace ordinary triple sec in a Margarita, and it shows: the citrus is fresh rather than syrupy, and many tasters swear they can pick up a faint whisper of agave underneath the orange, whether that is the tequila connection talking or just suggestion.
It works anywhere a recipe calls for triple sec or curacao, but it earns its keep in tequila based cocktails specifically, where it echoes rather than fights the base spirit.
