DAOU Reserve Seventeen Forty 2022 takes its cue from the great wines of Saint-Emilion, where Cabernet Franc and Merlot share the spotlight. Here, Cabernet Franc drives the blend with a complement of Merlot, producing a wine that pours an opaque ruby-purple and opens with aromas of violets, blueberry, dried sage, and bay leaf. The name honors the year 1740, a date tied to the Daou family heritage.

DAOU was founded by brothers Georges and Daniel Daou, who planted their family winery on DAOU Mountain in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. Their high elevation estate is known for calcareous soils suited to Bordeaux varieties. Seventeen Forty shows a different side of that ambition. Rather than following the Cabernet Sauvignon path, it looks to the Right Bank of Bordeaux and puts Cabernet Franc in the lead role, delivering a wine that is aromatic, savory, and layered. It is a rare chance to taste Paso Robles through a Saint-Emilion lens.
