A Different Take on Festival Beer
Most Oktoberfest beer is lager. Erdinger goes the other way. This is a top fermented Bavarian wheat beer brewed a little stronger and fuller for festival season, which gives you the banana and clove character of a classic weissbier with more body behind it.
Erdinger is the largest wheat beer brewery in the world, based in Erding just northeast of Munich. It still bottle conditions its beers with a second fermentation, the same method used for champagne, which is where the fine and persistent carbonation comes from.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Ripe banana, clove, and soft wheat, with a light honey note
- Palate: Full and creamy from the wheat, gently spicy, with fine sparkling carbonation
- Finish: Smooth and slightly sweet, with the yeast spice trailing off
How to Enjoy
- Serve at 46 to 50 degrees, colder mutes the yeast character
- Pour into a tall weizen glass, tilted, and leave a little in the can to swirl the yeast in

The Story
Erdinger Weissbrau was founded in 1886 in Erding, Bavaria, and remains privately owned. It grew into the largest wheat beer brewery on earth without ever moving away from traditional bottle conditioning. Its festival wheat beer is released seasonally alongside Oktoberfest. Brewed to the Reinheitsgebot purity law of 1516.
