DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
This is the Fall 2024 George T. Stagg, and we can tell you more about it than almost anybody selling one, because the distillery's own fact sheet came in the case and we still have it.
The whiskey was distilled from the fall of 2008 through the spring of 2009 and bottled in the fall of 2024 at 15 years and 2 months. It came out of the barrel at 136.1 proof and went into the bottle uncut and unfiltered. Buffalo Trace's previous Stagg release took First Place for Best Bourbon, Best American and Best Kentucky Whiskey at the 2024 International Whisky Competition.
Sixty-one percent of it evaporated
That is the number on the fact sheet and it is the whole story of this bottle. These barrels went into a rick warehouse on the lower floors and sat for fifteen years, and the angels took 61% of the original whiskey. What was left was concentrated rather than diluted, which is why a fifteen year old bourbon is still standing at 136 proof instead of fading into the seventies.
The full spec, from the distillery's sheet

What it tastes like, in their words
Nose: a powerful aroma of deep aged wood, rich oak and dark cherry. Palate: deep and layered, bold spice, assertive oak, creamy caramel and a delicate touch of cinnamon. Finish: long and drying, defined by strong oaky notes that linger pleasantly on the tongue, leaving a lasting impression of complexity and warmth.
It comes with the paperwork
The bottle ships with the original letter from Jake Wenz, President and CEO of Buffalo Trace, dated 15 September 2024, and the full fact sheet printed on the reverse. That is the documentation that came in the case from Frankfort. Most bottles on the secondary market have long since lost it.
