The Heaven of Bavaria, on Draft
Hacker-Pschorr traces to 1417. Its Oktoberfest tent, the Hacker Festzelt, is known for a painted ceiling of blue sky and clouds and carries the nickname Himmel der Bayern, the heaven of Bavaria.
The beer is a classic Munich Marzen: amber, malt driven, smoother than its color suggests. Toasted and caramel malts give depth while noble hops keep it from turning sweet. Draft is the format it was designed around.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Toasted malt, light caramel, a whisper of floral hops
- Palate: Medium to full bodied, bready and lightly sweet, firm hop backbone
- Finish: Clean and dry with toasted grain lingering
How to Enjoy
- Store cold and let the keg settle several hours after transport before tapping
- Pour at 45 to 50 degrees so the malt character comes forward

The Story
The Hacker brewery dates to 1417 and merged with Pschorr in the nineteenth century after Joseph Pschorr married into the family and bought it. The combined brewery is one of six permitted to serve at Oktoberfest under Munich city rules. Brewed to the Reinheitsgebot purity law of 1516.
