This is High West's blended American whiskey taken straight from the barrel to the bottle at 117 proof. Nothing is cut back, so the texture is thick and the flavors are concentrated: caramel, dark fruit and a serious wave of oak and spice.
Cask strength releases are batch specific, which means proof and character shift slightly release to release. That is the point. Add water drop by drop and watch it change in the glass.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Dense caramel, dried cherry, toasted oak and warm baking spice.
- Palate: Thick and oily with brown sugar, cocoa, rye pepper and char.
- Finish: Very long, hot and sweet with oak tannin.
