Kiuchi Brewery has been in Naka, Ibaraki since 1823 and launched Hitachino Nest Beer in 1996, becoming one of Japan's most award-winning craft breweries worldwide. The Shochu Cask is one of their most distinctive releases, an ale finished in shochu barrels, the traditional Japanese distilled spirit made from rice, barley, or sweet potato.
The result is a Japanese craft beer unlike anything from the West, carrying the distinct character of shochu barrel maturation: a slightly smoky, earthy, and complex layer over the ale base that makes it a fascinating pour for beer and spirits lovers alike.
