The Easier Way Into Soju
Chamisul Fresh is the lighter of the two Chamisul bottlings at 16 percent, and it is the version that turned soju into a global drink rather than a strictly Korean one. Where Original carries more grain weight, Fresh is cleaner and gentler, which makes it far more forgiving if you have never had soju before.
It is filtered through bamboo charcoal like its older sibling, and it mixes better than almost anything else at this proof. A large share of the soju cocktails people order in bars are built on Fresh, precisely because it does not fight the other ingredients.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Very clean, faint sweetness, almost neutral
- Palate: Light and smooth with a mild sweetness, noticeably softer than Original

The Story
HiteJinro has been distilling since 1924. Chamisul arrived in 1998 with bamboo charcoal filtration and reset what Korean soju tasted like. Fresh was introduced as the lighter expression and has become the world's most popular soju by volume. The toad on the label is printed in temperature sensitive ink and turns blue when the bottle is cold enough.
