Kleiner Feigling, which translates to Little Coward, is a pun on the German words for coward and fig that only makes sense once you have tried it. Waldemar Behn, a family owned spirits company founded in 1892 in Eckernforde, Germany, launched the liqueur in 1992 and turned it into a genuine cultural phenomenon. It built its own drinking ritual along the way: tap the capped bottle upside down on the table to create bubbles, then drink.
The base is a premium grain vodka, triple distilled and triple charcoal filtered before Mediterranean figs are infused into it. That process strips out the harsh edges most flavored vodkas keep, which is a big part of why this became a party staple across Germany and Europe rather than a novelty bottle. At 20% ABV it sits in liqueur territory, light enough to shoot straight from the bottle or mix into something more serious.
