Laird's 7 1/2 Year Old Apple Brandy: America's Original Spirit, Well Aged
Laird's 7 1/2 Year Old is a 100% straight apple brandy aged in charred oak barrels for about seven and a half years. Barrels are chosen at a select tasting before the brandy is bottled at 80 proof.
The long rest in oak turns bright orchard fruit into something deeper, with baked apple and cedar on the nose and apple, pear and wood on the palate. It drinks like a fine aged brandy at an everyday price.
Laird & Company has made apple spirits since 1780 and calls itself America's oldest applejack and apple brandy distillery. The Laird family first introduced this bottling in 1964 to mark New Jersey's 300th anniversary.
Rated 92 points by Wine Enthusiast, it is a favorite of bartenders and brandy lovers who want a truly American alternative to Calvados and Cognac.
