Leopold Bros Three Chamber Holiday Rye: Pre Prohibition Rye, Reborn
The Holiday Edition of Leopold Bros Three Chamber Rye is an annual release built from older barrels than the standard bottling. It is bottled at 100 proof from a mash of 80% heritage Abruzzi rye and 20% Leopold Bros floor malted barley.
Three chamber stills produced most American rye for about a century, then vanished after World War II. Leopold Bros rebuilt one from historic manuscripts, and the result is a creamy, oily rye with layers of stone fruit, honey, leather and dark chocolate.
Brothers Todd and Scott Leopold run their family distillery in Denver, Colorado, where they floor malt their own barley and ferment with open air native yeast. Their three chamber still took more than 15 years of research and is considered the first working example in generations.
Three Chamber Rye is one of the most talked about whiskeys of the past decade, and the Holiday Edition is the most sought after release in the lineup. It is a true bucket list bottle for rye collectors.
Tasting Notes
