Little Book Chapter 07 In Retrospect is Freddie Noe's 2023 release, and it is the most self referential blend in the series. The name is literal. Freddie pulled one liquid from every previous chapter of Little Book, then added a seventh that had never been used before. Chapter 07 is the series looking back at itself.
Seven straight whiskeys are co mingled, bottled at 118.1 proof (59.05% ABV), uncut by any chapter that came before it:
- 18 year Kentucky straight bourbon
- 17 year Kentucky straight bourbon
- 9 year Kentucky straight bourbon
- 4 year Kentucky straight bourbon
- 10 year Kentucky straight rye
- 4 year Kentucky straight rye
- 5 year straight malt whiskey finished in applewood smoked barrels
Freddie Noe is the eighth generation of the Beam family and the son of Fred Noe. Little Book is his own line, named for his granddaddy Booker. Every chapter is bottled once, never repeated, and released as its own idea. Blending percentages have never been disclosed.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Layered oak and vanilla with dried fruit, applewood smoke, and a lift of rye spice.
- Palate: Deep and complex. Dark caramel, stewed cherry, cocoa and baking spice over old oak, with a gentle smoke thread through the middle.
- Finish: Long and evolving, closing on toasted oak, cinnamon and lingering smoke.
How to Enjoy
- Neat: a blend this layered changes in the glass over ten minutes.
- A few drops of water, not ice: at 118.1 proof it opens up, but the smoked malt component fades fast when chilled.
- Slow evening sipper: this is a bottle to spend an hour with, not a cocktail base.
