Old Charter Oak Finest Oak: Buffalo Trace's Study in Barrel Wood

Old Charter Oak Finest Oak is part of Buffalo Trace's series exploring how specific oak changes bourbon. Each release in the line isolates a variable in the barrel wood, and this one is built from select oak barrels chosen for grain quality, bottled at 95 proof (47.5% ABV).

The name honors the Charter Oak, the tree that sheltered Connecticut's charter from the crown. These releases are produced in small quantities, and because Buffalo Trace treats them as experiments rather than core products they are hard to find twice.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Vanilla bean and dark caramel with dried fruit, leather and rich oak.
  • Palate: Oak forward and layered. Toffee, cherry, cocoa and baking spice over deep barrel character.
  • Finish: Long and dry, closing on oak tannin, tobacco and vanilla.
