The 2024 is scarcer than the 2025

Worth understanding if you are choosing between them. Every autumn release of Sazerac 18 gets drunk down over the following year, and the older the release the fewer bottles are still sealed. The in stock asking price on the 2024 right now runs from $1,499 up to $1,799, and the shops that listed it near $999 are sold out. The 2025 is easier to find and cheaper. The 2024 is the one that is starting to disappear.

What it tastes like

Strong body, mellow spice, and a dry sweetness that sits on the tongue instead of sliding off. Eighteen years takes the raw green edge off rye entirely and leaves leather, dried fruit, tobacco and old oak behind it. At ninety proof it needs nothing added. Drink it neat and do not put it in a cocktail, not even the one it is named after.

Why eighteen year old rye barely exists

These barrels went into the rickhouse when rye was a dead category. Nobody was laying down rye whiskey for eighteen years on the bet that somebody would want it, so almost none of it exists at this age from anybody. The back label makes the claim directly: it is the only eighteen year old whiskey the Sazerac name goes on.
