The Hakushu 12 Year: The Verdant Single Malt From Japan's Mountain Forest Distillery
The Hakushu 12 Year Old is the forest single malt of the House of Suntory. Established in 1973 by second master blender Keizo Saji, the Hakushu Distillery sits deep in the woods at the foot of the Japanese Southern Alps, where whisky is made with water of rare softness that has filtered slowly through ancient granite.
Suntory Whisky was founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, and for three generations its blenders have chased the harmony of Japanese nature and craftsmanship through the art of Tsukuriwake: diversity in the making. Hakushu is the refreshingly herbal, gently smoky side of that house style, and the 12 Year is its clearest statement.
