Victor Trader Vic Bergeron opened his first restaurant in Oakland in 1934 and went on to invent the Mai Tai a decade later, becoming the founding figure of American tiki culture. His Macadamia Nut Liqueur carries that same spirit of tropical indulgence into a bottle built for after dinner sipping rather than mixing. It played a role in cocktail history too, helping win the 1982 Kahlua International Cocktail Competition against more than 10,000 entries.
Despite the name, it is a Caribbean rum base flavored with a proprietary blend that mimics the rich, buttery character of the actual nut rather than using macadamia extract. The result is smooth, sweet, and genuinely convincing, closer to a liquid version of macadamia brittle than a novelty flavor.
