Edward Tyrrell planted his first vineyard in the Hunter Valley in 1858, and the Tyrrell family has been making wine there ever since, making them one of Australia's oldest continuously family-owned wine estates. Vat 9 is their flagship Hunter Valley Shiraz, made from the oldest vines on the estate, and it is widely recognized as one of Australia's benchmark Shiraz expressions — earthy, spicy, and built for cellaring, reflecting the unique character of Hunter Valley's red volcanic soils.
