Nearly a Thousand Years of Practice
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan has been brewing on the same hill in Freising since 1040, which makes it the oldest continuously operating brewery in the world. It doubles as the teaching brewery for the Technical University of Munich, where much of modern brewing science is taught.
Festbier is the golden style of festival lager, not the amber Marzen. It runs a little stronger than an everyday helles but stays bright and soft, because a festival beer has to be drinkable by the liter. The 500ML bottle is the format Bavarians reach for at home.
Tasting Notes

The Story
Benedictine monks were brewing at Weihenstephan by 1040, when the abbey secured its brewing license from the city of Freising. The brewery survived fires, plagues, and secularization and is now owned by the state of Bavaria. Brewed to the Reinheitsgebot purity law of 1516.
