Nearly a Thousand Years, on Tap
Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan has brewed on the same hill in Freising since 1040, making it the oldest continuously operating brewery on earth. It also serves as the teaching brewery for the Technical University of Munich.
Festbier is the golden style of festival lager rather than the amber Marzen. Brewed a little stronger than an everyday helles but kept bright and soft, because a festival beer has to be drinkable by the liter. On draft it is exactly that.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Soft bready malt, light honey, clean noble hops
- Palate: Rounded and gently sweet, medium bodied, elegantly balanced
- Finish: Smooth and clean with a subtle hop dryness
How to Enjoy
- Store cold and let the keg settle several hours after transport before tapping
- Pour at 45 to 48 degrees, around 12 psi on a European coupler
- Confirm coupler compatibility before pickup

The Story
Benedictine monks were brewing at Weihenstephan by 1040, when the abbey secured its license from Freising. The brewery survived fires, plagues, and secularization and is now owned by the state of Bavaria. Brewed to the Reinheitsgebot purity law of 1516.
