W.L. Weller Full Proof is bottled at 114 proof, the exact strength at which the whiskey entered the barrel. Nothing is cut on the way out, and the bourbon is never chill filtered, so you get the Weller wheated mashbill at full volume: the same wheat forward recipe that made Pappy Van Winkle famous, just louder.
Buffalo Trace built this release for drinkers who want intensity without losing the softness wheat brings. William Larue Weller spent his life arguing that wheat in place of rye made a gentler bourbon. Full Proof is the proof that gentle and powerful are not opposites.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Dark caramel, brown sugar and vanilla, with dried cherry, leather and a lick of toasted oak.
- Palate: Big, oily and concentrated. Toffee, baked fruit and chocolate over dense wheat sweetness, with heat that builds rather than bites.
- Finish: Very long and warm, finishing on oak, cocoa and sweet spice.
