Willett Pot Still Reserve is small-batch Kentucky straight bourbon from the family-owned Willett Distillery in Bardstown. At 94 proof it is rich and honeyed without being hot, with layers of caramel, vanilla and gentle baking spice.
The copper-still-shaped bottle is one of the most recognizable on any back bar, and it took Double Gold for packaging at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It is a bottle that earns shelf space and gets opened.
The Willett family has distilled in Bardstown since the 1800s. After decades as Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, the family restarted distilling at its own still in 2012 and has become one of the most respected independent names in bourbon.
Pot Still Reserve was introduced in 2008 and won Gold for taste and Double Gold for packaging at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition that year.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Brown sugar, caramel, honey, vanilla and light florals
- Palate: Vanilla, butterscotch, cinnamon and a touch of coffee
- Finish: Mint, baking spice and earthy oak with lingering vanilla
How to Enjoy
- Neat or with a splash of water: A few drops open up the aromatics and soften the proof.
- Old Fashioned: 2 oz whiskey, 1 sugar cube, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, orange peel. Stir over a large ice cube.
- Manhattan: 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 2 dashes Angostura. Stir, strain, garnish with a cherry.
- Gift it: The still-shaped bottle makes this a go-to gift for birthdays, Father's Day and new bourbon fans.
